A Short Guide to Muzzle Training

Here a 5 Steps when Muzzle Training your dog:
1. Apply peanut butter, paté or squeezy cheese inside the snout end of the muzzle as motivation for your dog to place his nose in.
2. Provide lots of encouragement and treats when your dog voluntarily places his nose in the muzzle and make the experience as positive as possible.
3. Clip up the strap so that it only fits one finger underneath. Reward your dog with a treat through the holes in the muzzle.
4. Walk your dog with the muzzle on. If your dog attempts to remove the muzzle, keep your dog moving and reward them when they leave the muzzle alone. Patience is key!
5. After removing the muzzle, massage the area where the straps will have been but do not reward your dog, do not associate the removal of the muzzle with a treat. Repeat these five steps regularly and for increasing periods of time.
Make sure you get the correct size for your dog.  The piece that goes across the nose mustn’t rub their eyes.
